Staying at The Great Ocean Ecolodge
The Otways are beautiful, rugged, untamed and enchanting.
Embraced by the spectacular Great Ocean Road and the Great Ocean Walk, there are so many special places to explore, from secret rainforest gullies to the wild Great Southern Ocean.
The Ecolodge...
The Great Ocean Ecolodge is a magnificent multi award-winning environmentally sustainable guest house within the grounds of The Cape Otway Centre for Conservation Ecology. Adjoining the Great Otway National Park and close to the Great Ocean Walk, the Great Ocean Ecolodge is a certified Advanced Ecotourism destination.
The Guest Rooms...
The Ecolodge has only five bedrooms, so your visit will be unique and personal, particularly if you choose to book the Ecolodge exclusively. From every window the views over the Otway Ranges or kangaroo meadows are breathtaking and the dawn chorus is magical.
Your bedroom is private and peaceful, furnished with a comfortable bed, crisp clean linen, and timeless antiques. The ensuite bathroom is equipped with fluffy towels and a delicious assortment of locally made natural soaps and shampoos.
A Taste of the Otways...
Our wonderful chefs create sumptuous feasts from fresh regional produce, much of it grown in the Ecolodge's own garden. Breakfast and dinner are served in the Great Hall and are always a wonderful occasion. You may choose to dine together at the massive dining table or more intimately. We are fully licensed and offer a range of superb wines from the Otways and beyond.
Dining is particularly special as the wild kangaroos often gather nearby to graze in the early mornings and evenings. Watching the young bucks play-fighting and the does tending their joeys is a treasured experience.
Ecology Experiences...
The Guided Dusk Walk offers outstanding opportunities for observing kangaroos, koalas and indigenous wild animals in their natural habitat and Great Ocean Ecolodge guests are exclusively invited to join this special experience. The Nature Studies Room and the Library are great resources for checking sightings and catching up on the finer points of natural history. All our staff are qualified ecologists or have an interest in sustainable living and organic gardening. We welcome the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience with you and are delighted to discuss your interests.
